Critic article

Local personal space dominates Larisa Akhmadeeva’s works . Her pictures can be defined as pictures-states and pictures-deliberations. They seem to be brought about by some flare of emotions Larisa has passed through, by a very intimate experience that makes her share her personal impressions and philosophical views. She demonstrates a theater of fates, characters, psychological attitudes, and responds to life’s calamities. Scenario of her composition is her compressed outlook, each episode challenging existing life conditions ideologically. Such deep artistic conceptuality receives its shining expression in her composition-signs. In the picture Towards the Warmth, a girl from the zone of warmth and light that represents hope and circumambient universal love saves a girl stuck in the zone of alienation and coldness. The image of this longhaired girl often appears in Larisa’s pictures. This girl is a collective character whose typical features remind one of the author’s personality. Thus, Larisa seems to emphasize her own presence and participation in all her pictures-fables: from the light image of a juvenile in the series Adults' games: "A vicious circle", to the formed personality possessing her own impressions of the world in Everything Gone to Smash. Larisa has never concealed her fondness for impressionism that forms the stylistic model of her artistic system. However, her art does not strictly follow the rules of impressionistic composition and coloring. The artist modernizes some features of this style, being inspired by the plastics of color counterpoints, airy perspective and its lightfulness. Impressionist motives sound especially coherent in her landscapes that bear Monet’s lightness and transparency as well as his sunny palette. Combinations of blue, pink, and green colors, primarily used by Larisa, render the image of dreamy and romantic St. Petersburg. It lacks a tragic Dostoyevskian break but is marked with Pushkin’s energy and exhilaration, Blok’s pensiveness and mystique, Tsvetayeva’s softness and loneliness, and Brodsky’s deepness and sensationism. In her multicharacter compositions, Larisa uses another stylistic method to intensify the expression of her images. It is obviously bound to the inventions of postimpressionism with its cubic forms. By alternating zigzags and contrasting dark and light tones she renders tension and dramatics to her pictures (consider, for example, her All in Red). A thinking and continuously experimenting master, Larisa is clearly fascinated with the subject of dance, should it be professional ballet or social dancing in cafes and clubs. Dance seems to be the best means to show the plastic expression of a fixed moment in mood’s and emotion’s development. Dance is perfect to express human emotions and inner beauty through gestures and postures. In her works, Larisa repeatedly tries to seize transient moments by fixing the dramatics of the ongoing chain of events. Her works clearly show a solid artistic conception behind them. Larisa Akhmadeeva is a master who can skillfully utilize stylistic patterns of world’s best artistic movements.
